Myths and misconceptions

Dive into a few facts behind online education as we debunk common myths and misconceptions surrounding online courses. This section aims to clarify misunderstandings and shed light on the real benefits and challenges of virtual learning environments.

First steps for collaborating with us

Begin your journey towards creating impactful online courses with eConcordia by exploring our step-by-step guide on collaboration. Here, we outline the initial steps and essential considerations to ensure a successful partnership in developing high-quality online learning experiences.

  1. Speak with your Department Chair to determine if the course is a good fit for an online course.
  2. If approved by your Department Chair, contact onlinecoursedev.admin@concordia.ca to receive a copy of the Preparations for Online Course Application (POCA) form.
  3. Complete the POCA form with all available supporting information as the assigned Subject Matter Expert (SME) and consult the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) as needed.
  4. Submit the completed form to your Chair for approval, who will then submit the form to the Associate Dean/Faculty Dean for further approval.
  5. Set up the login account and complete the mandatory learning of the Faculty Online Readiness (FOR) modules (approximately 2 hours to complete).
  6. Begin working with the eConcordia team for specific online course design and development.

In your application, you will need to justify the pedagogical reasons for offering your course online and describe your vision of its learning activities. Your application will be given priority if you meet the following criteria:

Your Course You
  • Has over 150 students
  • Is offered every academic year
  • Was offered as an in-class section or remote model with Moodle before
  • Is a core course
  • Feel comfortable with technology and digital pedagogy
  • Have no sabbatical plans during the course’s design and development period
  • Are currently an active faculty member at Concordia

Approval may take some time to work its way through the stakeholders; however, rest assured that both the eConcordia and the Office of the Provost teams will follow up on your proposal's status and will send reminders to all concerned parties where necessary. You are also encouraged to regularly follow up on your proposal's status with your department and faculty.
